Library improves Bookmobile schedule

The San Antonio Public Library Bookmobile is adding more stops and adjusting its schedule to meet the ever-changing needs of library patrons. Beginning July 1, the Bookmobile will add one new stop, relocate two present stops, and shorten its hours at each location.

“With our customers’ increased use of the internet, they have changed how they use the Bookmobile,” said Ramona Lucius, Library Outreach Coordinator. “Instead of perceiving the bookmobile as a substitute for a building, a growing number of our patrons are placing requests for material on the library’s website [www.mysapl.org] and selecting the Bookmobile as their pick-up location. Shortening the time we spend at each Bookmobile location will allow us to make more stops and reach more people. Over the next year, we will be adding several new stops in outlying areas that are not currently being served.”

Full details for the Bookmobile’s schedule and locations are available on the new print schedule available at any Library branch, on www.mysapl.org, and on the bookmobile blog (http://saplbookmobile.blogspot.com/). Changes starting in July include: · Adding a new stop in Helotes at Casa Helotes Senior Center, 12070 Leslie. · Relocating the west side stop from John Glenn Elementary School to a new stop in Kirby at Hopkins Elementary School, 2440 Ackerman. · Relocating the south side stop from Southside ISD to a new stop in the Elmendorf area, 4125 S Loop 1604 E (in the Whataburger parking lot). The Bookmobile provides monthly library service to readers of all ages who live in the outlying areas of Bexar County. It carries over 3,500 books and loans approximately 10,000 items annually.
